The Sad Affairs Concerning PC Gaming

PC Gaming has been neglected as of late.  True, there are very good, if not excellent, game titles still available.  In the greater scheme of things, a lot of publishers/developers have cheapened the gaming experience for many PC users.  Part of this is easing transparency between PC games, and their console counterparts.

There are understandable reasons why game developers/publishers are trending away from PCs - most obvious among those reasons is, piracy.  There is still a community devoted to lifting whatever restrictions or form of protection they try to implement.  Second, thinking about the costs of PC gaming - aside from the games alone, it would cost a pretty penny to obtain, and maintain tip-top PC gaming hardware (specifically, graphics card, and processor).  Third, but very debatable, is the coding transparency between the two platforms.

Many PC gamers, who are still very die hard, have grown disenfranchised by certain moves with respect to certain games. Taking a quick example of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,  Many in the PC community have stated the PC version of the same game has lost many of the elements making a PC version of the same game unique - namely, dedicated servers; and, in addition, custom, or modified servers.

Another aspect in how developers/publishers tarnish PC gaming is how they resort to dated graphics engines. This has been well perpetuated by EA Sports' handling of PC versions of their popular titles - Madden, NBA Live, NHL, etc.   It was disheartening to find out things about the PC version of its Madden series on the PC: using the same engine used for the Playstation 2 for all Madden titles since 2001, or 2002 for the PC.  Certain features being taken out; along with vibration feedback support - to name a few.

Despite superior hardware on all levels, PC gaming adoption, in contrast to console gaming, has steadily declined.  This is, in small part, due to the high maintenance nature of some PC machines.  This is unlike consoles - therein, things work out of the box, without much maintenance needed.
